The Devon County Council (DCC) Highways Team has notified us of the planned closure of High Street and Fore Street in Great Torrington for 4 weeks in October in order to re-lay the individual paving blocks along the pavement in the town centre (see below). This will improve the pavement from both aesthetic and safety perspectives. As a result of these works, both High Street and Fore Street will be closed to traffic 24 hours a day for the duration of the work and there will be no parking permitted during this time: this is for safety reasons and to allow the team to store materials and equipment. Pedestrian access will be maintained to the shops during the works as the team will only work on sections of the footpath at a time. Where the team need to work directly outside shop entrances, they will liaise with shop owners to either carry out this work in the evenings or on days/afternoons when the shops are not open. The Highways Community Liaison Officer is working closely with the Chamber of Trade and shop owners to keep them informed about the plans and the Town Council will be monitoring progress of the works and liaising with DCC throughout. The Town Council has requested that signage is placed in appropriate places to make it absolutely clear that the town is still open for business and that parking is available in Barley Grove and Sydney House car parks.

Please see below email received from Devon County Council:-

This is advance notice that there will be some more road closures on the A3124 at Beaford. There will be a full road closure from the 21st October 2019 for 2 weeks to allow for footway, drainage and sewer repairs to be undertaken by Devon County Council and South West Water. These works have been long requested by the Parish – if you have ever driven through Beaford when it is raining you might have noticed the bus shelter being completely flooded… In addition to this, resurfacing works are planned in November as well. Unfortunately it has not been possible to undertake these works at the same time, however the resurfacing will take place at night time only, minimising disruption. The Night time closures will take place during 18:00hrs to 07:30hrs from the 7th November 2019 for 1 week on the A3124 in Beaford village to enable the resurfacing operation to be undertaken by the Council’s Contractor. There are some other resurfacing works due to take place outside of Beaford which I believe have been pencilled in for November as well, however the dates are still TBC. They will though be night closures so again disruption should be more limited.
